John O. Cashen is a Louisiana attorney and the founder of Cashen Law Firm LLC, based in River Ridge and serving clients in the Greater New Orleans area and throughout Louisiana. His practice focuses on estate planning, criminal defense, disability law and special needs planning, family law, and other select civil matters.

John earned his Juris Doctor and Degree in Comparative Law from LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center, where he also received a Graduate Certificate in Estate Planning and Taxation. He previously earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Louisiana State University and graduated from Jesuit High School in New Orleans.

Before founding Cashen Law Firm, John gained courtroom experience as an Assistant District Attorney in Orleans Parish, where he gathered firsthand insight into how criminal cases are evaluated, charged, and prosecuted. That experience helps him identify key issues early, anticipate the government’s approach, and advocate for clients with preparation and perspective in criminal defense matters. After leaving the District Attorney’s Office, John worked at The Rousell Law Firm, where he gained private-practice experience representing clients in family law, criminal defense, estate planning, and other client-centered legal matters. Across his experience as a prosecutor and private attorney, he has has represented clients in over a thousand legal matters and served as the lead attorney in twelve trials.

John founded Cashen Law Firm to provide clients with direct attorney access, clear communication, and practical legal guidance. Whether helping a family plan for the future, guiding a client through a divorce, or defending someone facing criminal charges, John approaches each matter with personal attention, preparation, and diligence.

Outside of his legal practice, John is proud to stay connected to the local community he serves. He is an active parishioner at St. Matthew the Apostle Church and enjoys pickup basketball, spending time outdoors, cheering for the Saints and Pelicans, and exploring Louisiana. That local connection helps shape the personal, client-focused approach he brings to Cashen Law Firm.
